The Health Department announced today that it is expecting to get about 2,100 doses of swine flu vaccine in about a week to 10 days and start distributing them to people considered at high risk for the flu.
The first batch will be in the form of a nasal spray, which is not approved for pregnant women. The department hopes to get injectable vaccines after that and the goal is to vaccinate all 140,000 people in the county identified as high risk by Thanksgiving.
The department also said that beginning about Oct. 20 they plan to open vaccination clinics in area middle and high schools. Elementary school vaccinations will be held after school so parents can be there.
